Commemorative coins Coin no. 248
The construction was carried out by a Zlín construction company. The relatively austere appearance of the villa on a floor plan of 12 x 12 meters was enlivened by the bulge of the southern façade in the entire height of the building. On the ground floor there was a salon, dining room with kitchen and living room, on the first floor there were bedrooms and guest rooms with bathrooms. There were technical facilities in the basement. The garage stood outside the villa under sloping terrain right next to the road. The extension took place in 1931. Architect Vladimír Karfík significantly affected the layout and appearance of the villa in 1937. He abolished the main entrance from the street and designed a new one in the west façade. A road with a turning point for cars was brought to the entrance. Apparently, the entire garden with a swimming pool was modified. In 1948, the villa was confiscated. On the plot of the garden, the construction of a collective house with the buildings of a kindergarten, a nursery and a transformer station began. A winter spa was also built nearby. In 1951, it was adapted for the needs of Czechoslovak Radio. The original interior was changed and the exterior of the building gradually underwent changes. In the interior, Jan Baťa’s study with built-in furniture and sliding doors, massive wall cladding and staircase, a fireplace made of polished stone and a lighting fixture in the social space have been partially preserved. Today’s owner of the building is Czech Radio, which also rents the villa to other entities.
