Passo pordoi – Fausto Coppi

Cable cars and peaks Coin no. 001

Nestled between the Sass Pordoi and Sass Becé mountains, Passo Pordoi demarcates the border between the districts of Trento and Belluno and is only 12 km away from Canazei. but also 28 sharp turns. It is one of the 4 passes of the well-known Strada delle Dolomiti, built at the beginning of the 20th century to connect Bolzano with Cortina and thus facilitate the tourist development of the Ladin valleys. Many important pages of our history are linked to Pordoi: from the battles of the First World War, which are still witnessed by the German ossuary, to Maria Piaz, a pioneer of tourism in the Val di Fassa and sister of the famous alpinist Tita Piaz, to the sporting results of the Giro d’Italia, as commemorated by the monument dedicated to the racer Fausto Coppi.
In summer, it is a privileged starting point for challenging excursions, via ferratas or comfortable routes such as Viel dal Pan, an ancient route for bakers on their trade routes between the Venetian region and the Trentino region.
From the pass, you can quickly reach the Gruppo del Boé massif thanks to a modern cable car, which climbs Sass Pordoi to 2950 m above sea level in just a few minutes, where you will turn your head at the view of the entire Alpine arc around.
