The Empire Fryštát Castle is a unique monument of its kind in the local region and represents a true unique in the region, which was originally destined for exclusive industrialization. This sad fact is also evidenced by the fact that Fryštát Castle has been preserved only as the only one of the three magnificent castles that were still located in the city in the 20th century.
The history of the castle is mainly connected with its founders, who were the princely family of the Těšín Piasts, and with its last owners, the Larisch-Mönnich family, which had an important position at the imperial court and was related to Empress Elisabeth called “Sissi”.
Since 1997, the castle has been open to the public after extensive reconstruction. During a tour of the stylishly furnished rooms of both the main building of the castle and the Lottyhaus building, you are introduced to the life of the nobility at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. One of the representative rooms is used for wedding ceremonies, always on the first Saturday of the month, and occasional chamber concerts.
On one side, the chateau is connected by a covered corridor with the oratory of the Church of the Exaltation of St. Cross. On the other side, it is connected by a glass corridor to the adjacent building “Lottyhaus”, with which it forms a unified architectural unit. At the main entrance, there are two early Baroque statues of Hercules on both sides.
