The Czech Royal Castle of Křivoklát is one of the oldest and most important castles of Czech princes and kings, whose origins date back to the 12th century, it was built during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II and Wenceslas II and was significantly rebuilt by Wenceslas IV, later generously completed by Vladislav Jagiellon. Křivoklát was severely damaged by fire several times. It became a dreaded prison and its importance declined sharply. In the 19th century, the Fürstenbergs had the castle restored in a romantic spirit. The former popular hunting residence of several Czech rulers has remarkable castle interiors with many preserved elements of medieval decoration. The monumental Great Tower hides hunting weapons and other exhibits related to the history of hunting.
