Kost Castle

In the beautiful surroundings of the Bohemian Paradise, in the middle of sandstone rocks, there is a medieval castle called Kost. It was built around the middle of the 14th century and its builder was Beneš of Vartemberk, mentioned here as early as 1349. The castle was completed at the end of the century by his son Petr. By a rare coincidence, the silhouette of Kost has not changed since that time. The dominant feature of the building is a five-storey residential tower, called Bílá. Around 1414, the castle was acquired by the Zajíc family of Hazmburk.

In the years 1497-1524, the Šelmberks resided on Kosta, who rebuilt the west wing. Until the middle of the 16th century, the so-called Bibernštejn Palace was built on the way to the castle. During the Lobkowicz family (until 1576), farm buildings were built in the forecourt, fortified and attached to the castle itself.
In the large halls, visitors will be particularly interested in numerous weapons from the 17th to 19th centuries, which, however, are not directly related to the members of the Kinský family, which we can see in the paintings. The black kitchen is also noteworthy.
