The most important religious building in Zaragoza is the Basilica del Pilar, with its four bell towers, eleven domes, and a relief of the Virgin Mary standing on a column in the center of the façade, where you would normally expect an entrance.
According to legend, it was built by St. James, who spread Christianity in Spain after the resurrection of Jesus, but was not particularly successful. During the prayer, the Virgin Mary appeared to him with a column and told him to build a temple and place the column (pillar – hence the pillar) in the altar.
Zaragoza is Spain’s fifth largest city, the capital of Aragon. It is located in the northeast of the country, in a strategic position about halfway between Barcelona and Madrid. Its population exceeds 700 thousand inhabitants.

Náměšť na Hané Castle

The Náměšť na Hané Chateau was built in the 18th century in the most modern style of the early Classicist Baroque with French architectural influences. The chateau stands in the middle of a circular park, from which linden alleys protrude to the four cardinal directions.
In 1726, the Harrach family, who belonged to important families of the Habsburg Empire, bought the Náměšť estate. The Lower Chateau served as their residence. After the end of the Seven Years’ War, Count Ferdinand Bonaventure of Harrach began
with the construction of a new chateau (the foundation stone was laid on 1.3.1766) near the ruins of a medieval castle. The new summer residence was built in the most modern style of early Classicist “Moravian” Baroque with French architectural influences. The new chateau was called the Upper Chateau. The former seat is the Lower Chateau (today the Malt House). At the same time as the chateau, a circular park was created, which is connected to the four cardinal points by linden alleys with a circular path. The last major modifications were carried out in 1925 by the landscape architect Křemen. Its layout ranks among the most important buildings in Moravia. North of the castle, on the site of the old castle chapel, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1672, which was consecrated in 1722. Today’s Empire chapel has a 1834 appearance.
An important building connected with the history of the castle is also the tomb of the Kinský family, which they had built in 1871 at the newly founded cemetery in Náměšť. The tomb is built in the Empire style and above the crypt there is a chapel with a wooden altar. Three generations of the Náměšť Kinský family are stored in the tomb. In 1778, after the death of Count Harrach, the castle was inherited by his daughter Marie Róza, Countess Harrachová, who had been married to Count Josef Kinský since 1777. The Kinský family, like the Harrachs, were one of the most prominent families in the empire and lived in Náměšť for 124 years. The last Kinský of the Náměšť branch, Eugene II, sold the castle to František Ottáhal, an iron wholesaler, in 1916. Mr. and Mrs. Ottáhal had the chateau modernized. After the death of František Ottáhal, in 1943, his wife and children inherited the chateau.
On June 17, 1945, the property of the family was confiscated according to the Beneš Decrees. It was one of the first confiscations in ČSR.Do end of 1999 the chateau was administered by the Museum of National History in Olomouc, from January 1, 2000 to June 30, 2000 by the SSHZZSM (Administration of State Castles, Chateaus and Gardens of North Moravia). Since July 1, 2000, the chateau has been the property of the Township of Náměšť na Hané.

Strážnice Gates

At the foot of the White Carpathians on the Moravian-Slovak border lies the town of Strážnice, known mainly for organizing international folklore festivals. The town was founded in the 2nd half of the 13th century to protect the country’s borders – as a guard fortress on the border. Anyone who comes to the town today by road No. 55 from Hodonín or from the opposite side of Veselí nad Moravou may feel as if they are entering the gates of some kind of fortress. The entrance to the town is actually made up of two massive brick Renaissance gates, which have been preserved on the outskirts of the town as remnants of the original medieval town fortifications. In the direction from Hodonín it is the Skalická Gate and on the other side from Veselí nad Moravou it is the Veselská Gate. Massive gates with semi-cylindrical bastions were part of the fortifications built around the town in the 16th century to defend against the Turkish threat. The town of Strážnice, with its still living folklore traditions, also offers visitors other cultural monuments: a chateau and an open-air museum – an open-air museum with examples of folk buildings from the Moravian Moravian Slovácko region.

Lower area of Vítkovice

National Cultural Monument – blast furnace complex “Lower Vítkovice Area”
Iron production in northern Moravia and Silesia has a long tradition. Iron was produced in small pudding plants in the Beskydy Mountains as early as the 17th and 18th centuries.
The rapid development of ironmongery in the Ostrava region in the 19th century was made possible mainly by two facts: the use of hard coal in metallurgy and the invention of the steam locomotive.
In 1826, the most famous Frýdlant Ironworks was taken over by the Archbishop of Olomouc, Rudolf, brother of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor.
The foundation of the Vítkovice Ironworks is closely connected with the person of F.X. Riepl, a professor at the Vienna Polytechnic, who worked as an expert advisor in mining and metallurgy at the Olomouc Archbishopric.
He was aware of the fact that the production of wood-coal blast furnaces in Frýdlant, Baška, Čeladná and the Těšín region at that time – at the beginning of the 19th century – depended on the size of the forest wealth and that the production of these furnaces would not be sufficient to meet the demand for iron for the production of rails
(the construction of the so-called Ferdinand Northern Railway – the first steam railway from Vienna to Galicia began).
NKP – the area of the “Hlubina” mine
Foundation of the Hlubina mine:
Knowledge about the development of coal seams gained during mining activities at the surrounding mines of Antonín, Karolina and Šalamoun proved that coal seams were developed from Moravská Ostrava further south towards the Vítkovice ironworks. Therefore, in 1851, two search wells were dug near the ironworks, which were positive with the findings of coal seams. On their basis, a new mine was founded on the border of Moravská Ostrava and Vítkovice in the so-called František Valley. A new mine was founded, which was named Hlubina.
In 1852, the excavation of two pits next to each other began at the same time, which at that time was a technical innovation referred to in mining practice for a long time as a double pit. The reference and wind pits were dug at a distance of 24 m from each other. From 1852 to 1857, the mining pit No. 1 was dug under the 4th floor to a depth of 244 m. The mining machine was of unknown brand. The wind pit Hlubina 1 was dug below level 2 in 1854-1856. Floors to a depth of 155 m. The pit was walled in a barrel shape with a diameter of 3×3.7 m. The wind pit was equipped with a fan syst. Guiball. By digging the Hlubina pits in 1852-1857, a group of very abundant Jaklovec strata was opened. The first mining from the openings was mined through the pit in 1857, regular mining began in 1863.

Klementinum is setx, which is located between Karlova and Křížovnická streets. On the Old Town side of Charles Bridge, right in the center of the historical part of Prague.
Originally, a Dominican monastery was built here in 1227 at the Church of St. Clement. After the arrival of the Jesuits in Prague in 1556, at the invitation of Ferdinand I of Habsburg, they began to rebuild the Clementinum into a college. The local complex was built by the Jesuits in the years 1653-1726. This Baroque complex was modernized and expanded over the years from the High Baroque to Classicism. The complex contained classrooms, a printing house, farm buildings, accommodation premises, buildings for customs, but also the Church of St. Salvator, St. Clement, the Italian Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Chapel of St. Eligius and St. John of Nepomus. In 1751, a museum of mathematics was opened in the Klementinum. After the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, it was used by a secularized university and the Archbishop’s Seminary. After the division of the university in 1882, only the Czech part of the Faculty of Arts and Theology remained. Since the 1930s, only the university library has been expanded. In the Klementinum, you can admire the Astronomical Tower, 68 m high. At the top of which there is a statue of Atlanta, probably by Matthias Braun.

Bata Canal – Babice Dock

The Bata Canal is a waterway of transport importance used by class 0.
It is possible to drive small vessels up to 20 kW without a license, which are only capable of displacement navigation and a maximum speed of 20 km/h. This means that a person over 18 years of age can drive a vessel without a special permit or license, in the rental company the operator will only train him to handle the boat.
Sailing in a slip is prohibited. Maximum speed is allowed on canal sections
8 km/h
The length of the Bata Canal (from Otrokovice to Skalice) is currently approximately 53 km. Some sections lead along the Morava River, others it runs through artificially dug canal sections. Overall, it is navigable from Kroměříž to Hodonín, but there are several “obstacles”:
– on the north side, there is no lock on the Bělovský weir near Otrokovice, i.e. the section from this weir to Kroměříž is separate and is not connected to the rest of the waterway.
– on the southern part of the Bata Canal, there is no lock in Sudoměřice, which makes it impossible to sail from the board sluice further towards Hodonín, where there is a separate navigable section.
The difference in height on this waterway (18.6 m) is compensated by 13 locks (locks) with dimensions of 5.3 x 38 (50)m. Of these, 11 locks are fully automated with the possibility of control via remote control.
The navigation level is maintained by 13 weirs. Rafting on the weirs is strictly forbidden!
The depth of the Bata Canal is on average 1.5 meters. It is recommended that the draught of the ship does not exceed 80 cm. The size of the ship that is to sail on the Bata Canal should be oriented according to the size of the locks, so the ship should not be wider than 5 meters.
The width of the navigation channel is on average 12 meters.
There are about 50 bridges built on the waterway, many of which are unique technical monuments. On river sections, the underpass height of the bridges fluctuates according to the current flows, exceptionally 2.3 m, usually 2.4 m. The most common underpass height is 3.3 m, but the lowest bridge near Huštěnovice is only 2.3 m.
There are 11 fixed descents into the water with different parameters on the waterway. The descents on the river do not always have to be modified (removal of mud). We recommend using the descents in ports, which are maintained and there is a possibility of car guarding.
The Bata Canal is currently used only as a tourist waterway. Cargo navigation does not operate here. People spend their holidays, weekend stays, or come here in their free time to take a boat ride and get to know other attractions of our nature from the deck of the ship. They can rent it in one of the boat rentals that operate on this waterway. Regular cruises on large cruise ships or staying on a houseboat are also very popular.
Operation on the Bata Canal usually begins in April (practically as soon as the weather permits) and the official “Unlocking of the Sailing Season” is always on May 1. The waterway is saved for “winter sleep” by “Locking the Navigation Season” always on October 28. However, if the weather is favorable, boat rentals often operate even after this date. Both of these events are usually festive and the general public is invited to them. They are usually accompanied by a cultural program, boat cruises and other pleasures.
In addition to these events, various entertainment evenings, country and barbecues, in short, everything that belongs to summer, take place in the rental shops throughout the season!
Traffic on the Bata Canal is limited only by locks that have their own operating rules. They operate for a limited time, which you can always find in the “Current Operation” section!
