Janské Lázně

The town of Janské Lázně is located in the Trutnov District, Hradec Králové Region . Less than 800 inhabitants live here.

Janské Lázně is a world-famous spa town and at the same time the second best-rated ski resort in the Czech Republic.

It is the only spa on the Czech side of the Giant Mountains. In nearby Poland-Lower Silesia, there are 12 spa towns for comparison.

A quiet town with an unusual history is located at the foot of Černá hora (1299 m above sea level), to the top of which a cable car leads directly from the town. Thanks to the newly built cable cars, lifts and cross-country ski trails, the town has become a top sports and recreational center and an ideal starting point for the highest Czech mountains of the Giant Mountains both in winter for skiers and in summer for cyclists and hikers.

HISTORY

The first written mention of the village dates back to 1552.

According to the 16th-century Trutnov chronicler Simon Hüttel , the hot spring in today’s Janské Lázně was discovered as early as 1999 .1006Jan of Chočkov, the armourer of the knight Albrecht of Trautenberg, after whom it was also named as John’s Spring. However, it is more likely that the spring was discovered in the 11th century by prospectors who were looking for new deposits of ores and precious metals.

The first historical record dates back to 1300 and is contained in the land records of the property of the Silberstein family. Another interesting mention of Janské Lázně was recorded in the travelogues of the papal legate Aeneas Silvius, later Pope Pius II, who bathed in the warm spring during his travels in Bohemia in 1451 .

White Tower

The Renaissance White Tower is the highest landmark of the city (72 m), from whose gallery visitors have a unique view not only of Hradec Králové, but also of the distant peaks of the Giant Mountains and the Eagle Mountains. In its bowels, it hides the third largest bell in the Czech Republic, Augustin, the original clockwork of Josef Božek, and thanks to the generous reconstruction carried out by the city of Hradec Králové in 2014 and 2015, a unique glass model of the tower and modern audiovisual technology, which brings a plethora of opportunities for entertainment and education when climbing the tower.

Fantasy Golf Plasy

Fantasy golf, which is conceived as a trip around the world. You can play adventure golf here, walk through nine countries of all world continents and look into several time periods. We say that the course with eighteen holes is “three in one” – adventure golf, fauna and flora. We try to have fauna and flora in all countries that belong there. As well as stylish music corresponding to local traditions.

Our Fantasy golf was chosen as her training ground by the absolute world champion in Adventure golf Olivia Prokopová.

The first country is Japan with three holes. The first one is called Tokyo, which, as we know, is the capital of the Land of the Rising Sun. The second hole of the Yakuza indicates that it will not be easy to conquer. The third hole of Yin and Yang will show what mental balance you are in right now.

If you look around you, you will see typical accessories – a Japanese pergola, a tower in the style of Southeast Asia, a Buddha statue, a bonsai… you feel like you are in the middle of breathtaking Japanese gardens.

As if by magic, we will be transported several thousand miles and centuries further. Directly to the sunny Caribbean, a former paradise for pirates. Therefore, it is not surprising that this area is dominated by a pirate ship and beaches dotted with white sand. You will find two holes here. The first one, called Pirates, is right on board a pirate ship and you will play it under the strict supervision of the feared capital Edward Teach, called  Blackbeard.

The second hole is called Iceland and leads from the white sandy beach around the waterfalls to the island with live palm trees. You will certainly not miss the aviary with several species of parrots.

And there is another shift in space and time. Just take a few steps and you find yourself in ancient Greece. You will be greeted not only by the ruins of ancient buildings and temples, but also by a scaled-down Greek amphitheater. Two holes await players: Aphrodite and Colosseum. See how Olivia Prokopová can deal with them.

The ancient atmosphere is complemented by vines, herbs from the Mediterranean and a 200-year-old olive tree.

Those who believe in the power of vampires should perhaps skip the next country. Its name Transylvania alone, with the dominant castle of the legendary Count Dracula, scares weaker characters. However, Olivia enters the “Land Beyond the Forests” with the determination to conquer both local holes. The first – the Werewolf – is in the castle grounds and the golfer’s art is followed by the peregrine falcon and the great raptor in addition to Dracula’s spirit.

After the drawbridge, we get to the courtyard of the castle. In the castle moat, we notice the skeletons of enemies who tried in vain to conquer Dracula’s castle. We will not be nervous about the gallows, which is ready to punish criminals, nor by the bearded owl and a pair of swamp lynxes, and we will see how Olivia will deal with the second hole called Dracula’s castle. The ball is in the hole and we leave the ruins of the castle through the gate in the tower, in which there is a dungeon with condemned to death. We still have to go through the cemetery, where Count Dracula and his family are buried.

Time has torn the curtain, as the poet says, and we find ourselves in prehistory – in the land of Dinosauria. The roar of proto-lizards, a bubbling swamp, fins, ferns, a Pterodactyl hovering overhead. All this evokes the atmosphere of times where the human foot has not entered. But we can afford that luxury thanks to the four holes.

The first, called Tyrannosaurus, is played directly in the skeleton of a dinosaur, more precisely in its rib cage.

The second hole can be found in a cave with a waterfall. When you play it as brilliantly as Olivia Prokopová, notice the prehistoric cave paintings that resemble those in the legendary Altamira Cave.

The third hole called Pterodactyl leads through dinosaur tracks. After overcoming it, we come to the fourth hole. We have to be careful not to step on a dinosaur egg or one of the live ferns that have survived for millions of years. They were imported from as far away as Tasmania. They are unique in our latitudes, as are two Gingo biloba trees.

The fourth hole is called the volcano and is really played from the top of the volcano. The hole is located at its foot. Will Olivia be able to cope with it?

Under the volcano we meet one of the important sports personalities who like to go to the Plasy Fantasy Golf area. Sports commentator of Prima TV Jiří Nikodym did not deny his profession and told us to the camera…

Again, a leap in time and space and we get to ancient Egypt. It is dominated by a pyramid with the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, which is surrounded by sand dunes and palm trees. In this country you will find the only hole, which is called the Pyramid. That’s because it is played from the hot desert to the inside of the pyramid. But no problem for Olivia at all. And what about you?

Plasy fantasy golf will also delight lovers of the Wild West. Arizona, that’s the name of another country. A typical western saloon with a paddock for horses and goats is slowly turning into an Indian camp. The only hole of this land leads directly to the tee-pee. You have to play it under the supervision of several Indian warriors. From a distance, everything is watched by a massive bison.

From Arizona, it’s just a jump to an old Mexican village. In the penultimate country – Mexico – you will find two holes. The first is called Tequila, the second Desperados. Olivia can handle both without hesitation. When you get the balls in both holes, notice the surrounding plants: yuccas, agave and cacti were imported directly from Mexico. The fauna here is represented by squirrels and ferrets.

We are approaching the last country, which is Africa with a single hole, which is called Nairobi. In a small area, we see a safari car on which two chimpanzees are lounging, above them an orangutan is swinging in the branches. A family of lions is resting on a grassy hill. The dominant feature of the country is an indigenous hut. Behind it, on a hill, sit two mountain gorillas. It is alive by a nearby lake. Elephants and zebras with cubs are heading towards the water, there is also a crocodile and flamingos. All successful replicas. But there are also live animals – pheasants, turtledoves and Guinean pigeons.

Wait until it gets dark. You will see the playground in completely different dimensions. Dozens of lights and shadows play a completely different game than in broad daylight. All the lands look more mysterious and plastic. The sounds multiply. The sinister face of Captain Blackbeard is even more gloomy. Dracula’s castle evokes real terror in the moonlight. You hesitate to step into the unknown Dinosauria so that an unknown lizard does not drag you into the depths of the swamp. Every moment you wait for Tutankham’s mummy to come to life. The red warriors are silently watching you and you don’t know if an arrow will fly out of the Indian camp or a bullet from a desperate Colt from a Mexican village. It takes a lot of courage to walk around the lake under the African hut. We are back in civilization and our pulse slows down. But it was worth it. Don’t believe it? Then come to Plasy and see for yourself.

A visit to Fantasy Golf in Plasy is slowly coming to an end. If your throat is dry, you can refresh yourself at the ticket office, have a popsicle or ice cream and buy a souvenir as a souvenir.

Park Colonnade – Karlovy Vary

The Park Colonnade, designed by the Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer, served as a promenade of the Blansko Pavilion at the end of the 19th century. The pavilion was demolished in the sixties of the 20th century, but the cast-iron colonnade, fortunately, still stands today. This is mainly due to the complete reconstruction in 2002.

Although the colonnade, as we know it today, is only a fraction of the original building from 1880, it is still an important monument to the cast-iron spa architecture of the 19th century. It is a decoration not only of the adjacent Dvořák Park, but also of the entire Karlovy Vary spa zone.

Directly under the roof of the Park Colonnade or in its vicinity you will find three healing springs.

Fairytale Kingdom – King Otter

In the South Bohemian landscape full of mysterious places shrouded in legends from ancient times, supernatural beings have always thrived. But civilization has also penetrated South Bohemia, although with a little less noise than in other parts of the country. So where else should fairy-tale creatures hide than in South Bohemia? Children today know better various characters and characters from foreign series. Scary stories are replaced by television, several stories per evening, and when we go to bed, we don’t even know what really happened and what was a fictional story. Only there is less poetry in it than in those old horror myths. Somehow it has disappeared from our lives. And also the awareness that good should win in the end…
The sympathetic project Fairytale Kingdom combines love for nature, traveling through the region and fairy tales. Mapcentrum, together with the Studio Gabreta publishing house, also publishes books. There is also the Czech Fairytale Union with the fairytale king Zdeněk Troška, and it has its own Czech Fairytale Academy, which is led by director Marcel Goetz.
The carp Jakub of the iluterator Kerles is the main symbol of the South Bohemian Fairytale Kingdom, of which Zdeněk Troška is the king. Together with the actor Vydra and other South Bohemian actors, he has even made 12 episodes of radio bedtime stories about him.

Fairy tales from South Bohemia and Šumava or The Story of the Carp Jakub.
The book by authors Bára Stluková and Jaroslav Kerles is another project of the Fairytale Kingdom.  Nothing spoils the fact that the whole thing is associated with health insurance and recommended wandering around the region, if the Ten Commandments of Behavior in the Forest are also part of it.
The published books represent collected fairy tales from the region, but they would suit a higher professional level of both text and illustrations

CMQC recommends:
Wander through the fairytale kingdom with a fairy tale passport or wandering book
