The highest mountain in Moravia, Praděd (1,492 m above sea level), has been a popular destination for tourists since the 2nd half of the 19th century. The efforts of the Tourist Association in the Jeseníky Mountains to build a lookout tower date back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. After a number of vicissitudes, the construction began on June 30, 1904. After its completion in July 1914, a 32.5 high and 14.5 wide stone tower stood on the top of Praděd, which resembled the dominant feature of an old Gothic castle.
The basis of today’s building consists of three supports, one of which houses a restaurant and a hotel. The tower reaches a height of 162 meters. From the observation deck located at an altitude of 1,563 m above sea level, there is a breathtaking view of the entire panorama of the Jeseníky Mountains. In clear weather, you can rarely see the silhouette of the High Tatras, the Malá and Veľká Fatra.
An interesting fact is that the top of the tower reaches the highest achievable altitude in the Czech Republic.
