What’s better than two dimensions? Three dimensions! On November 4 at 2:00 p.m. , Techmania opened a state-of-the-art 3D planetarium, the first of its kind in the Czech Republic. It will offer you three-dimensional projections on a spherical surface and much more. Get to know not only the universe, but also the world of seas, oceans, insects or nanofibers, interactively !
In the new planetarium, which was built right next to the main building of Techmania, you will discover a lot. On a thousand square meters, you will find two projection domes, an original exhibition and the opportunity to look inside the architecturally valuable building… So what does the 3D planetarium offer?
Popular-educational projections in 3D
Three-dimensional projections on a spherical surface are a guarantee that you will not only be interested in the content, but also in the form: you sit in one of the 90 comfortable seats, lean back contentedly, put on 3D glasses and watch 140,000 stars spinning around you, moving images from the macro and micro worlds, all in a unique dome with an internal diameter of 14 meters. Only 3 European science centres currently have sophisticated projection technology from Sky-Skan: the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, CosmoCaixa in Barcelona and us, Techmania in Pilsen.
Science on a Sphere projection system
Imagine a two-meter globe that almost floats in space and you can control it by touch, change it, project short films on it, capture the Earth’s transformations over time, observe stormy tornadoes, track earthquakes or find out what can happen to a shoe that falls into the ocean… The interactive globe Science on a Sphere is only the 99th installation of its kind in the world and uses data from no one other than the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Interactive Space Exhibition
27 exhibits will show you the near and far universe as you probably don’t know it yet. You can “play” with a hydrogen rocket, try out a gyroscope or spacesuit, understand what is happening inside volcanoes or what the interior of the Sun looks like… Here, too, it is not enough to just look: do not hesitate to touch the exhibits! After all, it is by manipulating them that you will understand how not only they work, but also the laws of nature that demonstrate…
