411 Lookout tower Plešivec

Cable cars and peaks Coin no. 411

Among the lookout towers of the Ore Mountains, Plešivec is a unique building. The all-wooden lookout tower, on the top of the peak of the same name 1028 m above sea level, was built in 1895. This is mainly due to the association of friends of nature from Abertamy, which has been raising funds for the construction of the tower since its inception. After five years, the association’s patience paid off. In the winter of 1894, it successfully exported the material on a sledge, up to Plešivec. The whole building began operation the following year, i.e. on August 4, 1895. However, today’s appearance is not original, because over the years the cottage has grown and the 16-meter-high lookout tower is almost invisible.

A total of 66 steps lead to the octagonal tower. From its gallery there is a beautiful view of the surrounding peaks of the Ore Mountains, the Slavkov Forest, the Doupov Mountains, and also Dyleň in the Bohemian Forest. You can see the highest mountain of the Ore Mountains Klínovec 1244 m above sea level and the highest peak on the German side Fichtelberg 1214 m above sea level, as in the palm of your hand you have Jáchymov, Karlovy Vary, Slavkov Forest or the Doupov Mountains in the south.

You can get to the top of Plešivec by car on an asphalt road, turning off from the Abertamy – Boží Dar link. The top is also crossed by yellow, blue and green marked hiking trails from Abertamy, Pstruží, Merklín, Boží Dar and Jáchymov. The route from Boží Dar is also marked for cycling and represents a beautiful trek along forest paths from Klínovec, through the Boží Dar peat bogs and further along the ridge of the Ore Mountains.

The lookout tower is accessible all year round from 10.00 to 20.00 by stairs from the hotel dining room for a fee of CZK 10
