The foundation stone of this shelter, as it was called in the past, was laid on July 8, 1923. Since then, the cottage has had various forms and has been influenced by many events. Nevertheless, it still remains a place that retains its unique and original atmosphere. You can find it on the border with the Czech Republic, at the highest point of the White Carpathians, at an altitude of 920 m above sea level. It is located on the eastern slope of Veľká Javorina in the cadastral area of Lubin. The nearest town is 12 km away Stará Turá, 20 km to Nové Mesto nad Váhom, 27 km to Myjava. The wider and immediate surroundings of Holuby’s cottage offer many opportunities for quality trekking, mountain biking, hiking or skiing in winter. The cottage is open all year round. You can also visit the ruins of castles that are nearby: Čachtický Castle, Beckovský or Tematín Castle. On July 28, 2013, a memorial plaque with a bronze bust of Jozef Holuby – a Protestant preacher, botanist, ethnographer and supporter of Czechoslovak mutuality working in the White Carpathian region – was unveiled at Holuby’s cottage.
