Bečov Castle was founded in the 14th century at an important crossroads of land roads by the family of the Lords of Osek. The castle underwent the greatest development in the 15th and early 16th centuries under the possession of the Pluhs of Rabštejn, who became very rich from silver and tin mining in the area. The Renaissance Pluhov Palace dates back to that time. In the Baroque period, the lower chateau was built, which was opened to the public in 1996. In 1985, a Romanesque reliquary of St. Maurus was found in the castle premises under dramatic circumstances. It is one of the most valuable in Europe. The reliquary is a testament to Romanesque goldsmithing of exceptional artistic and craftsmanship quality and is the only monument of its kind in the Czech state. It is exhibited with a unique accompanying exhibition in the building of the Baroque chateau. Here you can also see preserved interiors from the 19th century and a chateau exposition.
