Cable cars and peaks Coin no. 398

The most common starting point for a trip to Sněžka is the picturesque mountain town of Pec pod Sněžkou (750 m above sea level). You can walk either through Obří důl around Slezská bouda or through Růžohorky and Růžová hora. The easiest way to get to the highest peak of the Czech Republic is by cable car Pec pod Sněžkou – Sněžka.

The traditional two-seater cable car transported tourists all year round from 1949 until 2.9.2012, when its operation was terminated. During this time, the cable car was visited by 20 million tourists and took more than 7.2 million passengers to the top of Sněžka. Its complete reconstruction is currently underway.

Since 21.12.2013 , a new cable car LEITNER A.G. from Italy, which is one of the two largest manufacturers of mountain transport equipment in the world, has been in operation. The cable car runs along the original route, only the lower station in Pec p.Sn. is moved lower to the Lesovna cottage. It is a two-section cable car with three boarding stations Pec pod Sněžkou – Růžová hora – Sněžka. Cable car system – a single-rope orbital cable car with four-seater closed cabins, which are disconnected from the towing rope at the stations.
