Montjuic – Barcelona

Museums Coin no. 004
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest Spanish city. Above the port of Barcelona rises to a height of 213 meters the Montjuic hill, which in the past was a  defensive fortress of the port. Today you can find botanical gardens here. The Teleféric de Montjuïc cable car runs from the final station of the Montjuïc Funicular railway and has three stops: Parc de Montjuïc, Mirador and Castell. At the top of the hill stands the Castell de Montjuïc castle with the beautiful gardens of the Jardins del Mirador. The view of the city and the port is unforgettable from here. A little further we will find the Olympic stadium Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys . The opening ceremony of the 1992 Olympics took place here, when archer Antonio Rebollo lit the Olympic flame with an arrow
On the hill, you can also visit the Joan Miró Gallery or the National Museum of Art with the best collection of Romanesque murals in the world. Interesting is the collection of Gothic paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries, which come from the Catalan art school as well as artists from other regions of Spain and Europe, and the collection of modern art at the Fundació Joan Miró.
The most spectacular building with an unprecedented show  is the Font Màgica fountain in Piazza España. Its “Music and Light” program starts every 30 minutes on the evening of the season. The illuminated gushing fountain plays in the dark with bright neon glowing colors and attracts hundreds of tourists to the accompaniment of classical and modern music.
