The Karel Zeman Museum presents the life’s work of the world-renowned filmmaker Karel Zeman and his film tricks, which made Czech cinema famous in the 20th century.
The exhibition maps Zeman’s work from his first animations and puppet films in the 1940s to his work from his last creative period. A substantial part of the exhibition is devoted to his most important films – Journey to Prehistory, The Invention of Destruction and Baron Prášil.
The museum is unique in its playful concept – it offers you the opportunity to get involved and try out the trick procedures that Karel Zeman used in his films on your own cameras and video cameras. To put it simply: photography and filming is recommended in this museum!
The exhibition is conceived as film scenes and small studios, through which you will walk through and film yourself in action – right between the scenery. You will float on a flying machine, walk around the moon of Baron Prášil or control the famous submarine from The Invention of Destruction.
At the same time, you will also get acquainted with original puppets as well as previously unpublished photographs and other documentary materials from the life and work of this film visionary.
The museum is an interactive and playful space aimed at families with children from the Czech Republic and abroad. In the long term, the museum is to become an institution preserving and promoting the legacy of the director and artist Karel Zeman, with a wide range of activities for the general and professional public.
