Brewery and Medieval Tavern Dětenice

Restaurants and breweries Coin no. 186
The first mention of beer brewing in Dětenice dates back to 1307 during the reign of Beneš of Dětenice and Wallenstein. In 1790, Count Clam-Gallas built a brewhouse with lager cellars, a fermentation room and an ice house next to the Old Cellar, and so the production of beer was expanded to 1000 hl per year. In 1822, Baron Wessenberg had a malt house built. The last building modifications, mainly in the malt house, took place at the end of the 19th century under the Knights of Malta. At this time, beer production was increased to 8000 hl per year. In 1903, beer exhibitions reached 12000 hl per year. After 1927, beer consumption decreased from year to year and was around 6000 hl per year.
For centuries, Dětenice castle beer has been a pearl among Czech beers. Then came 1948, nationalization and later mass closure of many breweries began. This also happened to the Dětenice brewery in 1955. Since then, the brewery has fallen into disrepair and fell into disrepair until 2000, when it was bought by the new owners, Mr. and Mrs. Ondráček, who restored traditional beer production.
