Commemorative coins Coin no. 010
Morella Castle is located in the town of Morella, in the province of Castellón, just a few kilometers west of the Costa Azahar in the Maestrazgo Mountains. The castle rises on a steep rock at a height of 1070 m and looks completely impregnable from below. Today, only ruins remain of the once famous triple castle. After climbing the castle, a beautiful panoramic view of the undulating, almost desolate landscape opens. Without a doubt, the most precious historical monument of Morella is the Gothic Church of the Virgin Mary. This monumental building with two magnificent portals on the façade is one of the largest and most beautiful temples in the territory of the former Valencian Kingdom and has witnessed many important events throughout history. The town itself, located below the castle, is a labyrinth of narrow streets. Although most of the buildings are from the 17th and 18th centuries, we can also find a number of medieval houses decorated with coats of arms. The center of the town is the street “Blasco de Alagón” lined with houses with arcades. Here is the largest number of shops and shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
