Religious monuments Coin no. 035

The abbey church, originally consecrated to the Virgin Mary, was built from the first half of the 13th century as part of the Benedictine monastery, founded in 1101. The basilica is one of the gems of medieval architecture. It is built in the Romanesque style with Gothic elements. It suffered greatly during the siege of Třebíč by the Hungarian troops of Matthias Corvinus in 1468 and was then used for secular purposes for more than two centuries. After the restoration carried out by the builder František Maximilián Kaňka in 1725-1731, it was again used for sacral purposes and consecrated to St. Procopius. In 2002, the basilica became a national cultural monument and in 2003 it was inscribed on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
