The burnt clay statuette was discovered by Karel Absolon in 1925 in the middle of a large ash pit in the settlement of mammoth hunters between today’s Pavlov and Dolní Věstonice. The statuette of Venus became famous for its site far beyond the borders of Europe. A replica of Venus and a number of other finds from archaeological surveys are concentrated in the archaeological exhibition in Dolní Věstonice. The original is in the Moravian Museum in Brno.
