Kroměříž Castle – Flower Garden

Květná zahrada

Locks Coin no. 211
The Flower Garden in Kroměříž, also known as Libosad, is one of the most important garden works on a global scale. Today, it is practically the only representative of such a complex in  Europe. Its main part was built according to the project of the imperial architect Giovanni Pietro Tencalla between 1665 and 1675. On the one hand, it still reminds of the late Renaissance Italian transalpine gardens, but on the other hand, it already opens the way to the French Baroque-Classicist type (Versailles). Even later modifications by renowned architects, Anton Arhe in the 19th century and  Pavel Janák in the 20th century, did not detract from its originality and atmosphere at the time of its creation.
Labyrinths of green walls together with the 244 m long Colonnade, two historic greenhouses, the central pavilion (Rotunda), the flower
and sculptural decoration still offers many surprising
and unique experiences.
