The oldest written mention of Lány is from 1392. Even then, a wooden fortress stood here. At the end of the 16th century, the village was bought by Rudolf II and on the site of the original fortress he had a simple hunting lodge built in the Renaissance style, which was Baroque during the 17th century. At the end of the 17th century, the castle was bought by the Wallenstein family. In 1730, Count Jan Josef of Wallenstein had the Lány chateau raised by the first floor. From the beginning of the 18th century, Lány was owned by the Fürstenbergs, until 1921, when the Lány chateau was bought by the Czechoslovak state for the representative purposes of the head of state. The chateau was rebuilt many times and its present appearance is the result of reconstruction in the years 1902 – 1903. The last construction modification of the chateau and its immediate surroundings was carried out in 1921 – 24 by the architect Josip Plečnik. The chateau stands in the axis of the chateau park, which was founded in 1770. Its present appearance is influenced by the modifications of J. Plečnik. A pond was established as part of the park, and later also greenhouses.
