The LIBOCHOVICE State Chateau is one of the most important early Baroque monuments in the Czech Republic. An extensive reconstruction was carried out in the years 1682-1690 by the Italian builder Antonio Porta for Prince Gundakar Dietrichstein. The current installation represents a cross-section – the development of interiors from the Renaissance and Baroque, through the Rococo, Empire to the styles of the middle of the last century. An important place is occupied by a collection of tapestries, glass and porcelain collections, as well as large canvases.
In 1787, a leading Czech scientist and scholar of European importance, Jan Evangelista PURKYNĚ, was born at the LIBOCHOVICE Chateau, to whom a separate exhibition is dedicated.
