Náchod Castle is a large building complex with five courtyards located on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. From a Gothic castle, founded in the middle of the 13th century, it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. It acquired its present architectural appearance during reconstructions and interior modifications in the 17th and 18th centuries. Among the most important owners of Náchod were the Smiřický family of Smiřice, the Italian family of Piccolomini, the Curonian family and the German princely family of Schaumburg-Lipp
