When in mid-1769 the then 20-year-old Count Karel Joseph of Salm-Reiffercheidt returned from his travels in Italy and France to take over his father’s inheritance, he saw the almost completed construction of the chateau in Rájec, which at the time was already one of the most artistically important aristocratic residences in Moravia.
After its completion, a Classicist-style chateau stood in the middle of the Moravian Karst, which has retained its appearance for centuries without any external reconstructions to this day.
