Telč Castle

Locks Coin no. 327

In the southwestern part of the Bohemian-Moravian borderland lies the picturesque and rich in art-historical monuments town of Telč. The complex of the Renaissance chateau and the town with predominantly Renaissance and Baroque houses forms one of the most comprehensive urban complexes in the Czech Republic. Adjacent to the narrower end of the square is the Telč Chateau, a jewel of Moravian Renaissance architecture. The core of today’s complex was the royal castle, which, however, was acquired sometime after 1339 by the lords of Hradec and expanded into a water castle. In its place, in the middle of the 16th century. Zachariáš of Hradec began the construction of a residential residence. The new buildings of the northern and southern palaces were managed by A. Ericer, whose work was followed by other architectural designs by Baltazare Maggi.
