The Museum of West Bohemia is one of the most important museum institutes in Bohemia and an important centre of scientific work in a number of scientific fields. The Neo-Renaissance building of the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen from 1902 on the left bank of the Radbuza River is one of the dominant buildings of the West Bohemian metropolis. In the premises of the building we can find not only museum exhibits with various themes, but also social halls and one of the most beautiful libraries in the country. The library of the Museum of West Bohemia has about 70 thousand volumes today. It includes a rare collection of manuscripts (about 1400 volumes) of medieval scribes, including the so-called Pilsen hymnbook. There are also incunabula (i.e. books printed before the end of the 15th century), early printed books (printed from the 16th to the 18th century) and a large collection of rare prints (bibliophile editions) from the 19th and 20th centuries as well as artistic bindings. The second collection fund is a collection of regional literature, which contains about 4000 volumes.
