In 2014, the Ostrava Zoo joined another rescue program, which is called The Kukang Rescue Program. Kukang is the Indonesian name for a protected species of slow loris Nycticebus coucang. The aim of the rescue program is to protect this species in Indonesia, with a focus on the area of North Sumatra, where this species occurs naturally. These protected and endangered semi-eagles are most threatened by illegal trade in Indonesia, where they are sold mainly as pets. The Kukang Rescue Program operates under the auspices of the Indonesian non-profit organization Indonesian Species Conservation Program (ISCP) and is managed in Indonesia by a group of Czechs together with Indonesians. Ostrava Zoo is the main partner of the program and its coordinator is the field worker of the Ostrava Zoo, František Příbrský.
